All “anomaly” maps show the difference between the predicted monthly average values of various meteorological variables compared to the reference period. These reference periods vary depending on the selected model. Several third-party models are available, as well as a super ensemble (SA-ENSEMBLE) created by Meteoblue. The maps carry a relatively high degree of uncertainty. However, they are essential in certain economic sectors, such as agriculture, to enable long-term planning.
The anomaly forecast screen is divided into seven different maps, as described below:
6.3.1 – 2m Temperature
6.3.2 – 850mb Temperature
6.3.3 – Precipitation
6.3.4 – Evapotranspiration
6.3.5 – Sea Level Pressure
6.3.6 – Wind Speed
6.3.7 – El Niño
Below, we will discuss each of these maps in detail.
6.3.1 – 2m Temperature
The 2m temperature anomaly map (Nº1) illustrates the temperature anomalies using different colors on the map (Nº2) compared to historical data. Figure 6.3.1A below shows how the anomaly map is presented on the platform.

Figure 6.3.1A – 2m Temperature Map
Hovering the mouse over the map displays the different temperature anomaly values at 2m (Nº3) compared to the historical values of the region. If preferred, the map values can be compared to the legend (Nº4) located in the bottom left corner of the screen. The time selector bar (Nº5) shows the different available dates for checking anomaly forecasts for the given region. If the user needs to adjust the image’s zoom on the screen, they can use the pre-set Zoom options bar (Nº6) located in the top right corner of the screen.
6.3.2 – 850mb Temperature
The 850mb temperature anomaly map (Nº1) illustrates the temperature anomalies using different colors on the map (Nº2) compared to historical data. Figure 6.3.2A below shows how the anomaly map is presented on the platform.

Figure 6.3.2A – 850mb Temperature Map
Hovering the mouse over the map displays the different temperature anomaly values at 850mb (Nº3) compared to the historical values of the region.
6.3.3 – Precipitation
The precipitation anomaly map (Nº1) illustrates the variations in precipitation anomalies using different colors on the map (Nº2) compared to historical data. Figure 6.3.3A below shows how the anomaly map is presented on the platform.

If preferred, the map values can be compared to the legend (Nº4) located in the bottom left corner of the screen. The time selector bar (Nº5) shows the different dates available for viewing anomaly forecasts for the given region. If the user needs to adjust the zoom on the screen, they can use the pre-set Zoom options bar (Nº6) located in the upper right corner of the screen.
6.3.4 – Evapotranspiration
