Rain and Precipitation

Precipitation maps allow you to see the amount, distribution, type, and probability of precipitation over a large area.

The rainfall and precipitation screen is divided into 7 different maps, as described below:

6.4.1 – Daily Precipitation

6.4.2 – Hourly Precipitation

6.4.3 – 3h Precipitation

6.4.4 – 6h Precipitation

6.4.5 – Accumulated Precipitation

6.4.6 – Precipitation Probability

6.4.7 – Clouds and Precipitation

Below, we will discuss each of the maps in detail.

6.4.1 – Daily Precipitation

This map shows the forecasted amount of precipitation in one day. The amount of precipitation is expressed in millimeters (mm) and colored as shown in the map legend.

The daily precipitation map (Nº1) illustrates the different forecasted amounts of rainfall, using different colors on the map (Nº2) to represent various amounts of precipitation. Figure 6.4.1A below shows how the daily precipitation map is presented on the platform

Figure 6.4.1A – Daily Precipitation Map

By hovering over the map, different precipitation values (Nº3) expected for the day will be displayed. If the user prefers, the map values can be compared to the legend (Nº4), located in the bottom left corner of the screen. The time selector bar (Nº5) will show the different available dates to check daily precipitation forecasts. If the user needs to adjust the image zoom on the screen, they can use the preset Zoom options bar (Nº6), located in the upper right corner of the screen.

6.4.2 – Hourly Precipitation

This map shows the forecasted amounts of precipitation in millimeters (mm) within a certain time period (specific date and time periods).

The hourly precipitation map (Nº1) illustrates the different forecasted amounts of rainfall, using different colors on the map (Nº2) to represent various amounts of precipitation for a given day and time. Figure 6.4.2A below shows how the hourly precipitation map is presented on the platform.

Figure 6.4.2A – Hourly Precipitation Map

By hovering over the map, different precipitation values (Nº3) expected for the day in a region will be displayed. If the user prefers, the map values can be compared to the legend (Nº4), located in the bottom left corner of the screen. The time selector bar (Nº5) will show the different available dates to check hourly precipitation forecasts. If the user needs to adjust the image zoom on the screen, they can use the preset Zoom options bar (Nº6), located in the upper right corner of the screen.

6.4.3 – 3h Precipitation

This map shows the forecasted amounts of precipitation in millimeters (mm) for a specific period (accumulated rainfall over the next 3 hours, taking into account the time selected on the time selector bar).

The 3h precipitation map (Nº1) illustrates the different forecasted amounts of rainfall, using different colors on the map (Nº2) to represent various amounts of precipitation for a given day and time. Figure 6.4.3A below shows how the 3h precipitation map is presented on the platform.

Figure 6.4.3A – 3h Precipitation Map

By hovering over the map, different precipitation values (Nº3) expected for the day in a region will be displayed. If the user prefers, the map values can be compared to the legend (Nº4), located in the bottom left corner of the screen. The time selector bar (Nº5) will show the different available dates to check 3h precipitation forecasts. If the user needs to adjust the image zoom on the screen, they can use the preset Zoom options bar (Nº6), located in the upper right corner of the screen.

6.4.4 – 6h Precipitation

This map shows the forecasted amounts of precipitation in millimeters (mm) for a specific period (accumulated rainfall over the next 6 hours, taking into account the time selected on the time selector bar).

The 6h precipitation map (Nº1) illustrates the different forecasted amounts of rainfall, using different colors on the map (Nº2) to represent various amounts of precipitation for a given day and time. Figure 6.4.4A below shows how the 6h precipitation map is presented on the platform.

Figure 6.4.4A – 6h Precipitation Map

By hovering over the map, different precipitation values (Nº3) expected for the day in a region will be displayed. If the user prefers, the map values can be compared to the legend (Nº4), located in the bottom left corner of the screen. The time selector bar (Nº5) will show the different available dates to check 6h precipitation forecasts. If the user needs to adjust the image zoom on the screen, they can use the preset Zoom options bar (Nº6), located in the upper right corner of the screen.

6.4.5 – Accumulated Precipitation

This weather map accumulates precipitation amounts (in mm) for a selected time. The accumulation hours can be selected on the time control at the bottom of the bar. Precipitation accumulations are available for the next 12 to 168 hours. For example, the 168-hour map shows the accumulated precipitation expected to fall in the next 168 hours.

The accumulated precipitation map (Nº1) illustrates the different forecasted amounts of rainfall, using different colors on the map (Nº2) to represent various amounts of precipitation for a given period of hours. Figure 6.4.5A below shows how the accumulated precipitation map is presented on the platform.

Figure 6.4.5A – Accumulated Precipitation Map

By hovering over the map, different precipitation values (Nº3) expected for the selected time interval in a region will be displayed. If the user prefers, the map values can be compared to the legend (Nº4), located in the bottom left corner of the screen. The time selector bar (Nº5) will show the different available dates to check accumulated precipitation forecasts. If the user needs to adjust the image zoom on the screen, they can use the preset Zoom options bar (Nº6), located in the upper right corner of the screen.

6.4.6 – Precipitation Probability

This map shows the probability of precipitation amounts greater than 0.1 mm. The probability is shown by colors in percentage (%). The colors do not indicate the amount of precipitation, only the probability.

The precipitation probability map (Nº1) illustrates the different forecasted probabilities of rainfall, using different colors on the map (Nº2) to represent various percentages of precipitation probability for a given day and time. Figure 6.4.6A below shows how the precipitation probability map is presented on the platform

Figure 6.4.6A – Precipitation Probability Map

By hovering over the map, different probability percentage values (Nº3) expected for the selected time interval in a region will be displayed. If the user prefers, the map values can be compared to the legend (Nº4), located in the bottom left corner of the screen. The time selector bar (Nº5) will show the different available dates to check precipitation probability forecasts. If the user needs to adjust the image zoom on the screen, they can use the preset Zoom options bar (Nº6), located in the upper right corner of the screen.

6.4.7 – Clouds and Precipitation

The clouds and precipitation map shows the amount of precipitation in the indicated time period (for example, 1 hour), as well as cloud coverage. White stars indicate snowfall.

The clouds and precipitation map (Nº1) illustrates the forecasted occurrence of clouds and precipitation, using different colors on the map (Nº2) to represent the occurrence of clouds and precipitation for a given day and time. Figure 6.4.7A below shows how the clouds and precipitation map is presented on the platform.
