Sea Conditions

The “Sea Conditions” product from meteoblue provides detailed forecasts exclusively for ocean-based locations, with no data available for inland areas. It delivers wind forecasts at 10 meters and 80 meters above sea level, as well as gusts, updated hourly throughout the current day. Wind intensity is color-coded according to the Beaufort scale, which classifies wind strength from calm to hurricane levels, aiding in the assessment of navigability and safety.

Additionally, the product includes atmospheric pressure forecasts, indicating rising or falling trends that are essential for anticipating weather changes such as approaching storms or high-pressure systems. It also provides forecasts for significant wave height and wave direction, as well as swell height and direction—swell referring to waves generated by distant storms that affect navigation. Wave height is color-coded using the Douglas scale, which classifies sea state from calm to very rough.

Wave forecasts (height and direction) are updated every 3 hours, while other variables such as weather conditions, cloud cover, precipitation, and the probability of showers are provided hourly. The product also includes sunrise and sunset times and offers a daily summary for each variable, making maritime route planning and decision-making more efficient.

This product is vital for maritime navigation, as it helps avoid severe weather zones, dangerous waves, and strong winds—enhancing both the safety and effectiveness of ocean operations.
