Soil Trafficability

1.What is soil trafficability?

Soil trafficability is the ability of the soil to support the weight of machinery and vehicles without causing damage to the soil structure. It is influenced by the soil type, the amount of water in the soil, and the weather conditions. The soil trafficability index is calculated for four types of soil: sand (sandy), loamy, clayey, and muddy (clayey). Each of them has a different water retention capacity and reacts differently to weather conditions.

2.How is soil trafficability calculated?

The calculation uses information on the amount of precipitation, hours of sunshine, specific water retention capacity of the soil, and much more. The soil trafficability index is calculated for each type of soil and is shown in the meteogram as a colored bar. The color indicates the trafficability of the soil: green means good trafficability, yellow means moderate trafficability, and red means poor trafficability
